Are the keychains attached to Kathy Van Zeeland handbags just for decoration, or were they meant to be used as an actual keychain for your keys?

I have a cheap kathy van zeeland bag! I got it at macy's!! it was originally 90-100 bucks and i got it for 40ish dollars. And I used my macy's card for the discount or print off coupons on their website. You can also find them at tj maxx or marshalls.
